Davy Crockett once said “You may all go to Hell, and I will go to Texas.” As a disciple of Christ, I would rather you not go to Hell, but I will still go to Texas. The house I grew up in made Jesus and character the foundation. Immense freedom and support was given in what I wanted to do as long as I did it with integrity and represented Christ well. I used this freedom to wring out every last bit of fun that I could fit into a day. I played every sport that would give me the opportunity and spent breaks with friends cutting our teeth on every lake we could get a boat on.
This continued into my time at Sam Houston State University where I majored in Communication Studies. It was during these years that two passions welled up. A desire to be a Jack-of-all-hobbies, especially those which take me into the wilderness, and to “make people stoked on Jesus.” As a Wilderness Discipleship Guide, I get to do both for a living, and the former at times opens the door for the latter. It has been great to use my Earthly passions to meet people from many walks of life and show them the love of Christ.
