Our Staff & Child Protection

Our Staff & Child Protection

At Camp Eagle, we believe exceptional camp experiences start with well-trained, mission-focused staff. Our summer staff complete a thorough screening process and an intensive three-week training program before campers ever arrive.

interview and hiring

Before joining our team, each applicant completes a live video interview, an industry-leading background check, and reference screenings. Our hiring managers carefully review every application, including work history, gaps in employment, and references, to ensure each candidate aligns with our standards.

Our hiring process is designed around a skillful screening program and is intentionally designed to promote safety and accountability. It helps communicate clearly to applicants that we take misconduct seriously, have multiple safeguards in place, and use thoughtful screening practices to identify concerning responses or potential red flags. Every applicant is also informed that we are mandatory reporters of any reasonable suspicion of abuse.

Beyond screening for safety, we also seek to identify candidates who are a strong fit for our mission and culture. We look for team members who will serve guests well, uphold our values, and bring a genuine passion for sharing the love of the Lord.

Training

Once hired, summer staff spend three weeks in training, spiritual development, and team building before campers arrive. Their preparation includes Red Cross lifeguard certification; CPR, AED, and First Aid; Sexual Abuse Awareness Training; Child Protection Plan protocols; 360-degree supervision; the Rule of 3; Emergency Action Plans; camper physical, spiritual, social, and mental health; and certification in the adventure activities we offer.

Lifeguards

We have a licensed lifeguard instructor on-staff who also serves as our waterfront manager. This helps our policies, procedures, and team stay on top of the quality of training and the quality of waterfront safety.  We also require personal flotation devices to be worn when swimming, at all times.  We believe this is critical for waterfront safety.

child protection policy

Camp Eagle takes your child’s safety very seriously. We have a comprehensive 140-point Child Protection Plan designed to promote camper well-being, maintain constant vigilance, and help prevent abusive incidents from occurring.

This plan includes detailed measures ranging from facility design standards, such as window visibility in storage areas, to supervision practices like the Rule of 3, which helps ensure campers are never alone with fewer than three people present at any given time. We also provide camper training on key elements of this plan so campers know how and when to speak up if they ever feel unsafe. This includes anonymous “See Something, Say Something” boxes located throughout camp.

In addition, all staff complete a state-approved Sexual Abuse Awareness Training, which includes instruction on recognizing concerns and following mandatory reporting procedures for any reasonable suspicion of abuse. Our Child Protection Plan is also reviewed through a third-party inspection process, along with a physical evaluation of our facilities and practices, to help ensure strong alignment and consistent implementation.

While Camp Eagle does not include discussions of sexuality in our curriculum, we strongly encourage parents to have an age-appropriate conversation with their child before camp, especially regarding safe body boundaries. We also ask that you review our Camper Code of Conduct with your child before arrival and help them understand what behaviors are appropriate and inappropriate. Most importantly, remind them that if they ever feel unsafe or encounter a problem, they should go immediately to a safe adult for help.
